Intel's Battlemage GPUs Target Professional Visualization and AI Markets
Intel's highly anticipated "Battlemage" GPUs are making their debut, but not in the consumer gaming segment as many expected. Instead, these new graphics cards are being shipped primarily for professional visualization and AI development. According to a recent leak from VideoCardz, Intel is preparing to launch the Arc Pro B70 and Arc Pro B65 GPUs, both built on the long-rumored BMG-G31 GPU die designed for high-end performance.
Arc Pro B70 and B65: Specifications and Features
The flagship Arc Pro B70 is set to feature a BMG-G31 configuration with 32 Xe2 cores and a substantial 32 GB of GDDR6 memory on a 256-bit bus. This setup delivers approximately 4,096 FP32 cores in its full configuration—double the core count and memory capacity of the Arc Pro B60, all within a single-GPU solution.
The Arc Pro B65, positioned as a more accessible option, utilizes a cut-down version of the BMG-G31 die. It supports 2,560 FP32 cores and 20 Xe2 cores, matching the core configuration of the Arc Pro B60 but increasing the memory to 32 GB of GDDR6—an 8 GB boost over its predecessor.
Release Timeline and Market Positioning
Intel is expected to launch both the Arc Pro B70 and B65 GPUs in the first quarter of this year. With January drawing to a close, a release in February or March appears likely. These new GPUs are positioned to meet the growing demand for local AI large language model (LLM) development and workstations that require higher computational power. By offering high memory capacities and competitive price-to-performance ratios, Intel aims to fill a gap in the market left by AMD and NVIDIA, particularly for professional and AI workloads.
No Immediate Plans for Gaming Battlemage GPUs
While Intel's board partners have received BMG-G31 dies for testing and integration, these are exclusively for the Pro SKU. There are currently no gaming-oriented Battlemage chips being shipped. Reports indicate that Intel is delaying the launch of the larger Arc B770 gaming GPU to concentrate on the professional visualization segment. As a result, there is no confirmed timeline for the release of a gaming-focused Battlemage GPU, leaving enthusiasts waiting for further updates.
