Philips and AOC Unveil Groundbreaking 1000 Hz Gaming Monitors
Philips and AOC have set a new benchmark in gaming display technology by introducing the first monitors capable of reaching 500 Hz at 1440p (QHD) and an unprecedented 1000 Hz at 720p. The Philips Evnia 27M2N5500XD and AOC AGON Pro AGP277QK were officially revealed in China on December 6, both featuring a 27-inch panel designed to deliver ultra-high refresh rates for competitive gaming.
Next-Generation Refresh Rates and Display Performance
Both monitors are equipped with QHD panels that support a 500 Hz refresh rate, with the option to switch to a 720p mode that doubles the refresh rate to 1000 Hz. According to DisplaySpecifications, these displays offer a 2000:1 static contrast ratio, VESA DisplayHDR 400 certification, a rapid 1 ms GtG response time, and wide color gamut coverage. While the exact panel technology has not been confirmed, the high contrast ratio suggests the use of advanced IPS or VA panels rather than traditional TN technology.
Innovative Features for Enhanced Gaming Experience
The Philips Evnia 27M2N5500XD was previously showcased at the WePlay Culture Expo in Shanghai, where Philips demonstrated its AI-powered light-sync system and ComfortView 4.0 eye-care features. The retail version of the Evnia monitor includes the Smart ErgoBase, allowing for full ergonomic adjustability. The AOC AGON Pro AGP277QK is expected to offer a similar four-way adjustable stand, ensuring comfort during extended gaming sessions.
Technical Considerations and Market Availability
Despite the impressive 1000 Hz refresh rate, these monitors utilize LCD technology, which means the ultra-high refresh mode is still subject to the inherent response time limitations of LCD panels. This may result in some image quality compromises at the highest refresh rates. Nevertheless, this launch represents the first commercial implementation of 1000 Hz on a desktop gaming monitor, marking a significant milestone for the industry.
Philips and AOC have yet to announce pricing details or global release dates for these monitors. It is anticipated that both models will be featured at CES 2026, where additional specifications and availability information are expected to be revealed.
